“Hard-swinging” Pianist Terry Lower kicks off jazz series at The Block with his BLT Trio 

Muskegon, MI, October 14, 2022—Known for his technical prowess and hard-swinging style, pianist Terry Lower has been active on the Jazz scene for over four decades, performing both in the U.S. and abroad. Lower will open the 2022/23 Jazz at The Block series on Saturday, October 22 at 7:30 pm. Joining him will be Dr. Barry Ross on violin and vocalist Lana Hoffman—collectively known as the BLT Trio. Bassist Dave Rosin and drummer Larry Ochiltree will be the rhythm section for this evening of straight ahead Jazz, familiar classical pieces, and The Great American Songbook.

Terry Lower is a virtuoso jazz pianist with his own sound inspired by the likes of Oscar Peterson, Monty Alexander, and Art Tatum. He has worked with such notables as Benny Golson, Frank Morgan, David “Fathead” Newman, and Kevin Mahogany and toured Italy with vocalists Betty Joplin and Edye Evans Hyde. Dr. Barry Ross is the concertmaster emeritus of the Kalamazoo Symphony and a gifted teacher who has written a definitive textbook, A Violinist’s Guide to Exquisite Intonation for the American String Teachers Association.  Lana Hoffman has made a name for herself as a professional singer throughout the southwest Michigan area with many talented jazz ensembles and big bands.
