Indie Folk at its finest comes to The Block

Muskegon, Michigan, March 7, 2018 – Frances Luke Accord, the acclaimed modern folk duo from Chicago—called “Indie folk at its finest” by Milk Crater—will appear in concert at The Block at 7:30pm Friday, March 23. Multi-instrumentalists and meticulous songwriters, this Chicago-based duo features gorgeous, buttery harmonies and modern folk music that interweaves Americana, jazz, soul and rock.

The group first gained national attention with the 2016 release of their debut full-length album, Fluke, the production of which was funded by a Kickstarter campaign that raised $16,000. The self-produced vocal tour-de-force evokes a noir film or a Spanish folktale. Since then, the group has been invited to perform on NPR’s Mountain Stage Radio Show with Larry Groce, and was showcased at Folk Alliance International’s 2017 Conference.

The Revue cited their “killer harmonies.” The Music Ninja described them as “Americana-rich charm that’s simply irresistible.” Nooga called their music “timeless yet absolutely necessary.” And Richard Milne of Chicago’s WXRT said, simply: “People should hear this music.”

Frances Luke Accord consists of songwriter-instrumentalists Nicholas Gunty and Brian Powers, hailing originally from South Bend, Indiana. The group formed during their senior year at the University of Notre Dame. In 2012 they released their first record, Kandote, a not-for-profit, intercultural collaboration with the Barefoot Truth Children’s Choir of Kkindu, Uganda. The choir continues to receive support from the record’s proceeds. Relocating to Chicago in 2013, FLA quickly garnered local and regional attention for their captivating live performances and self-produced releases, including an EP titled Queen for Me (2014), a live release titled Live @ Strobe (2015), and their recent debut album Fluke.

FLA is about to release a new single which will be featured on their upcoming spring tour, of which The Block is the third stop. The month-long tour will take the duo to 15 cities, including Chicago, Philadelphia, New York, Madison, Muskegon, Lansing, Ann Arbor, Lake Orion, Oberlin, Vienna (VA), Fanwood, Appleton, Lancaster, Mount Vernon and South Bend.

Ticket prices start at $25, $10 for students with ID. Tickets and information can be obtained by calling 231.726.3231 or at www.TheBlockWestMichigan.org. The Block is located at 360 W. Western Ave. in Muskegon.
